The Different Myths About Dentures

Those who already have dentures or those who still plan to have dentures may have already been alarmed by some of those myths they have heard about dentures. Dentures last forever, a myth that most people believe in. It is not true and you must not believe in it. You see, your mouth will change over time making your dentures eventually not fit properly. And no expensive dentures can overcome and survive all the wear and tear experiences it can have. Another myth people have tried believing in is that wearing dentures will limit what foods are allowed in your diet. Although it may be partially true, this is not the entire truth. Another misconception says that dentures will make your speech hard to understand or make it harder to chew and swallow. This is partially true but only as your mouth adjusts to having dentures. You will have normal speech and abilities to chew and swallow once the adjustment will be finished. The original misconception may have rooted from those certain medications which reduce the amount of saliva that your mouth creates affecting your chewing and swallowing abilities.

The use of adhesives in order to keep dentures in place is another concern. Depending on the circumstances, this can be partially true. You see, at first when dentures are still perfectly fitting your mouth, you would not need adhesives every single day. You will need adhesives to create a firmer hold may become necessary to hold your teeth in place when your mouth changes due to bone shrinkage and gum tissue changes. Depending on your palette, dentures can hold on either well or not so well enough. This is basically something you have no real control over. People also believe that there is no need for you to see the dentist again when you already have the dentures. This is a pure myth and should not be considered true.
